Well, on paper at least. Click. This has to be the first time that a launch of this size has actually run to schedule - they said May 14th, and lo and behold here they are. Now all we have to wait for is for some performance benchmarks to come in...
Here ya go Rookie: ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT 512MB review
One thing that does impress me is the fact that the 2900 series will include onboard 5.1 HD audio, thereby negating the need for a separate soundcard and audio cables to pump out 5.1 for your HDTV setup - the whole shebang goes through HDMI instead.
I wonder how Creative are going to take this news, what with ASUS champing at the bit to release their first soundcard as well...
I'm sure with some time invested into updated drivers, those benchmarks will improve considerably. Did you notice that the 1950XTX outran it in one of the benches? Should be a great card and eventually niche itself right in between the 8800GTS & GTX.
yay! ati have finally released something new lol, shame theres no cards with GDDR4 memory yet, any idea when they are comming out?
The only card I have seen with GDDR4 memory is the HIS Radeon X1950XTX, which has 512Mb of it clocked at 2Ghz effective.
Unfortunately X2600 and 2400 will be release only until july
