Hmmm, their flagship single GPU card beaten by the $350 570? This would appear to spell epic fail for AMD.

Wow. That's kind of disappointing. It lost to the GTX 570 in a lot of those tests at 1920x1200 with AA. Its also kind of odd how it can go from taking on the 580 with no AA, to losing to the 570 and 480 as soon as AA is used.

I'm still not regretting getting this GTX 470 one bit. Its keeping up with the 6970 fairly well in most of those charts, and that's just at stock speeds yet.

From the looks of it, it's slightly faster than the 480, in stuff like M2033, and 3DM11. Things which I would consider the most relevent examples of future titles.

The card is priced nicely, consdering the above puts it just above the 570. The 6970 sells for about $370, and you can pick up a 570 for $350. It's rather odd how much AA cripples the card though.

I won't be getting this card, simply because NVIDIA have the 580. A card that's another notch up entirely from the 6970, and I don't want dual GPU. The one thing that would sway me - if AMD had a competitor to the 580 - is the fact that I could run tripple monitors from just the one card. Something that's been bouncing around in my head lately.

Got any links? It seems to go from beating the 570 by a decent amount, to losing to it by a decent amount depending on the the game, which is something Guru3D even mentions in their review. I'd still pick the 570 simply because it seems to deliver more consistent results, and still has a good bit more tesselation power, which is going to be used in more and more DX11 games i think.

I've just read the BitTechs (the one posted above), Guru3Ds, Anandtechs, and TechPowerUps and they all put the 6970 pretty much even against the 570 overall.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.;5438385In the [H]ard OCP review the 6950 was better than the 570 in most tests (even beating the 580 in a few)

That's because [H]ard OCP for some reason only test at 2560x1600, which is where the 6970 is going to preform better given the larger framebuffer.

I actually like [H]ard|OCP's method because it shows what the max playable settings are on the max resolution you can possibly get when using one monitor.

If it can play the game at 2560x1600 with 8xAA and 16xAF with an average of 45 FPS then it sure can do the same at lower resolutions.

I know that isn't always the case for certain cards, as they may actually be slower than comparative model cards but it shows what they can do when really pushed.

Considering I am throwing around the idea of getting a third monitor I might be gaming at 5760x1200 here soon so I prefer those higher resolution benchmarks.

Plus all the other sites test at different resolutions so you arn't going to lack for info

AMD is such a letdown with this card. It has sooo much thermal headroom. If AMD threw down the volts and ramped up the clocks I think this thing would have smashed the gtx 580 but they had to wimp out and stick with their "cool running and multi cards" approach.

Lameasses.
