Radeon X1600 in December - [Computer Hardware] Submitted by sendekyo on 9/27/2005 1:25:45 PM comments.gif1 Comment

Things are finally starting to make sense. ATI has just announced the Radeon X800 GT and GTO cards and it took us a while until we realised how this card can co-exist with the upcoming RV530, Radeon X1600 series. The real answer is, it won't. ATI plans to volume ship the GTO until the end of the year. RV530 won't see the light of day until sometime in December. Therefore, you have to fill the gap with some other product that can make Nvidia 6800 standard and 6600GT run like a fox for cover. The second part of the story is that ATI actually has great volumes of both R430 and R480 and wants to use both chips for Radeon X800GTO and GT cards. How convenient. So when it comes to the mainstream and Shader Model 3.0 from ATI, you will have to wait a few more weeks than expected but we can confirm that some of the R520, Radeon X1800 series and all of the RV 515 Radeon X1300 will be available in quantity. Nvidia is planning a counter attack, of course, but we suspect some massive price cut on its existing parts, at least until the new mainstream and low end cards are ready. Source: The Inquirer

Thanks for finding the site laid.

Well since nvida will be beaten by the newer x1x000 series they want to cut prices on their cards, Good for the rest of us who want to burn our christmas money;)

This is the X1600. The X1800 should be released "by the end of september", according to ATi themselves. This is soon :)

ATI site MARKHAM, Ontario & TAIPEI, Taiwan--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 20, 2005--ATI Technologies, Inc. (TSX:ATY)(NASDAQ:ATYT) and TSMC (TAIEX:2330)(NYSE:TSM) have announced that TSMC is in volume production of multiple 90 nanometer (nm) products for ATI, including the Radeon® X1800, Radeon® X1600 and Radeon® X1300 series chips, and has shipped large quantities of production wafers to ATI.

"The ATI products produced with TSMC's 90nm process show a tremendous clock speed improvement and power reduction versus earlier generation technologies," said Jason Chen, Vice President of Corporate Development for TSMC. "As a result, TSMC is currently processing thousands of 300mm wafers for ATI, with many more already delivered. At this aggressive pace, ATI has already become one of our major 90nm customers."

"TSMC has done an excellent job of delivering on yields and speeds," said Rick Bergman, Senior Vice President of ATI's PC Business Unit. "As ever, they've proven themselves an excellent manufacturing partner as we ramp up some of the most advanced technology consumers have ever seen."

TSMC's state-of-the-art 90nm technology frees ATI from the limitations of less-advanced processes and enables a whole new level of performance and functionality for PC graphics. For example, the new ATI products have clock speeds around 50 per cent higher than products manufactured on older processes. this X1800 had better be worth the wait

if it doesnt beat the 7800 then ATI will go signifigantly behind nVidia

but im looking foward to seeing how well the X1800 does against the 7800

shows how far YOU are behind. the X1800 will not beat the 7800GTX. the x1800 will be a 16 pipe core only to be compared to the 7800's, ATI knew this from the start and they handed to crown to nVidia a LOOONG time ago deiberatly. the r580 core will feature 24 pipes unlike the r520 and will beat the 7800 series.
