Well I am keeping my options open from my other thread about the slots. I originally said 6800GTX but I want to know if the X700 is any good too, how much is it better/worse?

Well, I have an X700PE, and I find it more than good enough for all my games. I can play Quake 4, UT2K4, San Andreas and Far Cry all on very high graphical detail, and still manage to hit around 160-200FPS. Excellent card for the money.

If it can play up to Quake IV on very high settings I might actually get it then, I wann amake sure the other one isnt better though. I am getting the 6800GTX for around 100$ used, and i trust the seller, or I can get the X700 Pro for also 100$ but new.

Yeah, for the price it's a very good card for Q4. I haven't tried running it on ultra-high, but that would need 512mb of video memory, so...

The 6800GTX is probably better, but I have the X700 (Normal model, 256MB RAM) and it's definately enough. To pay that much more money for the 6800 would be a waste IMO.

Answer #1: the X700 is the PCIe equivalent of the old 9600 line, and is a quantifiably worse card. Competent, perhaps. But not in light of any NV40 card.

Point of correction: there is no such thing as a "6800GTX" (though at least one manufacturer--MSI--has a 6800GT whose model number begins "NX6800GTX-"). There is, however, a 6800GT and a 7800GTX.

Answer #2: either nVIDIA card will outperform the X700.

Interesting tidbit: Q4 uses the D3 engine, and I was able to run it at 1280x960x32 on Ultra (or whatever the highest setting is called) on an old 9600XT 128MB (see answer #1, above).

Hmm I guess it wasnt a GTx. anyways, I might just settle for a X700. Quake 4 is a new game and if a 9600 can run it ill settle for the X700.

before I DO buy it..does it have an compatibility issues with any games or something?

oh and thanks for the feedback guys.

True, there's no doubt that the 6800 is an awesome card, and will definately outperform the X700. What may be an issue, however, is that it costs around £120 more...

@DarthMaul: I'm running my X700 on stock Catalyst drivers and haven't experienced any game glitches, faults or compatability issues with it thus far.
