the X800xl for now. The x800xl goes about $30 less then the 6800gt with no performance difference. Once Sm3.0 games come out the 6800gt will take the lead

For price to performance the X800XL is the winner, the 6800GT is only probably 2-5fps faster on average than the XL except in Doom 3. the XL kills it in Half-Life 2 and NFS:U though.

The XL should be able to handle SM 3.0 games with not a lot of trouble. they are good overclockers though, you can easily overclock one to XT speeds or higher if you have good cooling.

6800GT all the way... the X800XL is fine if your low on cash, but otherwise go GT.

Why would anyone want to spend more money on virtually the same performance? Granted you can have SLI but thats assuming you have an SLI motherboard and a very good PSU which will cost you more again.

Games built using Shader Model 3.0. They look prettier, and currently only nVIDIA cards offer hardware support for it. However, Shader Model 1.4 is currently in widest use.

Wrong on HL2 (the 6800GT has a lower minimum FPS floor, but average framrates are within five or so of each other), correct on NFSU. That's the big exception to the rule: someting about NV4x does not work properly with NFSU, or vice versa. 6800GT is more efficient with respect to power consumption, and is also the current darling of video overclockers. It's also my personal choice, but if you're on a shoestring budget it's hard to deny that the X800XL is the better value. [/color]
