I am using the home edition of avast (4.7) ...is it good? I am using it because it is free and there was nothing running on the computer. It has detected some adware and it isn't done scanning for the first time either. I will post what it finds if you want when it is done... Also, I had to disable 2 or three of the "providers" to get my internet and e-mail to work. BTW, Dimension 3000 running WinXP, latest updates installed.

Get AD-Aware for taking care of spyware and adware.

Get AVG Anti virus for anti virus protection

Get Zonealarm for a good firewall

All can be dowloaded at www.download.com :)

Avast! is a very good anti-virus. I use it myself.

May I also add to Dr. Shark's list, that you get Spybot: Search and Destroy and Windows Defender. They're both anti-spyware tools (and good ones).

Spybot you can find at Download.com, and Windows Defender you'll have to go to microsoft.com. They're both free.

Avast is a great anti virus, better than AVG i think. You really should get a good firewall like ZoneAlarm on that thing though, that can stop alot of the nasty stuff from getting on your PC in the first place.

On my PC is use Avast 4.7, Spybot Search & Destroy, Ad Aware SE, and ZoneAlarm Firewall and i've been virus free for quite a long time.
