This will no doubt mean less choice for consumers in the free / low cost Antivirus market.
I personally always preferred Avast! to AVG, but don't use either these days as frankly Windows Defender does just as good a job as anything these days for a sensible internet user. I do recommend Avast still to most people.
But no doubt fans of AVG will be sad to hear this news, as often they chose AVG over Avast for a multitude of reasons, including performance and perceived differences detection rates, for example.
The deal isn't final yet but if it does go through, it would be a shame to loose AVG, as I have to assume that they will eventually merge the product lines together.
