Ok, my computer has been pretty retarded lately. Up until a few weeks ago it ran beautifully, I had just upgraded my video card and ram and now it's screwing up playing media (ANY meadia, music, games animations you name it), and the computer usage is spiking alot(Running avg and notepad made it spike to 100 percent once). Backround tasks are also getting a lot of usage(explorer takes up about 28 MB of memory constantly, while about 20 other tasks take up anywhere between 5 and 10 MB of memory at any given time. Games are running pretty badly, with low framerates or great when the character animations start slowing down(One round of serious sam was like the matrix...) i can just look around... I've tried pretty much everything i can think of, heres the list. A few days ago it just started running fine again, but yesterday it screwed up again...
Multiple De-fraggings(i mean, almost daily) Tons of Ad-Aware and Spybot scans Almost Daily AVG scans I tried WindowsASO(or RegistryASO i cant remeber), this gave me the day and a half of good running, but my compy quickly screwed up again. I uninstalled practically every game on it I tried a whole bunch of other registry cleaners I tried system restore once or twice I set the computers priorty on programs not backround tasks Cleaned off all the temprary internet files and stuff registry defraggs and more
My computer 1 GB of ram a 112 Gigabyte Hard drive a Nvidia 6200 with 256 mb of Ram A 2.08 Gigahertz proscessor and Windows X-friggen-P
Try reformating your HD?
Yeah, that's usually easier, faster and better in the long term than trying to fix this kind of stupid problem.
a few things come to mind, driver problems (most likely not), hard drive is nearing it's death or broken registries. try: http://majorgeeks.com/Advanced_WindowsCare_d4991.html
How do i reformat my HD?
Back up important files. (I.e. everything you've created, anything that can't be re-downloaded)
Insert the Windows XP disc (if you have it, otherwise phone up and ask for one from whoever you got the PC from) and follow the instructions onscreen.
doing a clean install on my new raptor drive on my other machine (gaming machine in sig) as I type on my media computer. I'm in the process of re-installing all of my drivers, virus protection software, then create a restore point ASAP. So no matter what you have a clean install of everyting over a clean reformat. Call it your get out of jail free card, aka Plan B. If you think it could be your harddrive go online and try to locate a driver diagnostic software from the manufacturer. I know I did when I was diagnosing some recent stop errors on my old image.
