Which of the major brands do you think is the best?

My Gateway fell apart on me after 4 years. My HP laptop has had power issues, and the speakers haven't been working for the past 4 months, and the damn little is little over 1 year old! My vote is going to have to go with Dell. They seem pretty good. What about you?

I didn't think that Alienware's where that majorly overpriced last time I looked at them. Maybe I should look again. Edit: Aaaahhh! Post jump! Blitzkrieg yours came first ;)

Alienware, just because of how much they kick ass. for second i would have to say Dell, i've had mine for over two years and i have not had a single problem with it, and alot of people i know who have them have never had any trouble. only problem is the limited upgradability of them. i hate compaq, i had one of those at one point, its was the worst computer i ever had but it wasn't that slow for the time, everything just went bad in it so fast and way too often.

I thought Compaq was out of business. I guess HP is still using the brand name. http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Nav?h_pagetype=s-001&h_lang=en&h_cc=us&h_product=82702&h_client=S-A-R163-1&h_page=hpcom&lang=en&cc=us

It is tought to say. Dell and Compaq, and Gateway used to make extremely proprietary systems. HPs were decent, but not the best. Dells varied greatly, and most Gateways were worthless.

Now, Alienware systems are Expensive, and not worth the price for anyone but gaming enthusiasts. Dell, and HP seem to be the best, yet every once in a while Gateway releases a system that wins awards in Magazines. Surpassing the competitors in performance, and price ratio. Dell systems are not the best value, compared to generic White Box PCs, which are hard to find... HP has its own version of 64-bit Linux...

Other: although grossly expensive, VoodooPC has some very gorgeous machines. Fantastic, tribal-like paint schemes. They're also known for the origami-like folding of cables, and selling a box based on Zalman's fanless chassis. I'm also partial to Falcon Northwest. Less pretentious than Alienware, they're also local to me. It's still more fun to build your own, though.

Im going with alienware, but theres another really nice company called Sager. Their computers nearly match the specs of the alienware, but are set at a better price. Heres their website: www.sagernotebooks.com
