Since I don’t have my camera on me at the moment and I can hardly use the print screen button in the BIOS I've nicked one off a website :)

Note: DONT USE THE SETTINGS SHOWN ON THE SCREENSHOT

attachment.php?attachmentid=24132&stc=1

EDIT: I'll see if I can lay my hands on a camera so you can have a looksee at the prop settings

Yes. That's my BIOS. Most of the settings listed are set to Auto. The frequency can only go up to 280MHz.

Right in the documentation I've got for the America Megatrends BIOS you should be able to go to the CPU PnP setup page and be able to alter the Multiplier frequency from there.

Note: I’ve got to go out now so I’ll be back in a few hours.

You should have an option in your BIOS to "Load Optimised Defaults" or something similar.

Run it.

The reason your 2400+ doesn't clock at 2.4GHz (it should be 2GHz) is because AMD can't compete with Intel in terms of sheer clock speed, which is what people understand even when it's such a poor indicator or relative performance. AMD uses their rating system to use as a "guideline" in determining how any one of their CPUs compares to "similar" (read: Intel) chips. For the record, Pentium 4 CPUs execute six instructions per cycle, AthlonXPs do nine. That's why AMD can get away with rating their chips as they do.

Cheers for that. I'll check back tomorrow. Must write down instructions.

@ C38368, for this guy, once is enough. ;) How did you end up posting twice anyway?

The other reason AMD can get away with the rating is because they rate them a tad low...

AMD is optimized for graphics, and a 2400 AMD can out perform any 2.4 ghz Pentium. or 3.xghz Celeron.

Thats a good comparison. A Celeron may on a rare occasion be faster, but only the fool will upgrade a Pentium to a Celeron, unless its 3 generations better.

As long as you have GREAT cooling (Not the Fan that came with it), you can clock that AMD up to 2.4ghz, and it'll smoke any Intel. :naughty: ^ I wouldn't receommend going any higher.

Didn't even realise that I'd double-posted! Dunno how I managed to do that... Anyways.. I'm now officially taking wagers that my previous sweetheart (a Costa Rican 2.4C) will spank anything AMD can offer from the AthlonXP line. Overclocked, of course :D
