I'm going to ask a silly question here, but why are there DVD/Blu-Ray players that are more expensive than the PS2/3? It's the same data being sent to the same display.
The same reason, why you would get GRADO headphones instead of unnamed chinese backdoor ones. (albeit this analogy is a bit too skewed)
The decoding, (very often reencoding) quality of those more expensive players is far more precise, better optimised and faster, not to mention a high probability for actually higher quality outputs and inputs.
Plus many have tv functions which let you record trough tv codes and other things.
Bs|Archaon;4777173Erm, who ever said anything about BluRay drives in computers?
Well since Blu-Ray drives work on the exact same principles as Blu-Ray players, then would it be redundent to get a Blu-Ray drive when, with my luck as it is, this HVD thing could get released very soon?

If you actually read the topic before replying you'd see that...
1) This news story is already old and if it was going to happen soon we'd know.
2) There's no way that this will replace BluRay soon. BluRay hasn't even replaced DVD yet, it took years and years for DVD to kill VHS and don't forget the humble CD which is still going strong despite BluRay/DVD/MP3/iTunes etc.
Oh yeah, I forgot about VHS and CDs lol. Wow, Old style. Seriously, when was the last time someone brought a music CD? VHS, ahh VHS, Those were the days lol. We still have the player/recorder, to lazy to upgrade to a HDD recorder or BluRay recorder, stupid parents being fucking tight asses, BluRay isn't even expensive
meh... By the time the next popular format (after Blu-Ray) takes hold, it may be something else entirely. Superman crystals or something. lol
Noobst3R;4774729To be honest, does anybody owns a blu-ray player? And frequently uses it? And not a PS3, a real player bought for watching movies.
Plan to buy one in a couple weeks actually. The prices on them have dropped down to a reasonable enough level to justify the purchase. Would be nice if the disks follow suit soon too.
