incase u havent seen my other recent threads about how my hl2 and bf2 games are crashing even though i have the "latest driver" on my 8600 GT the games still crash. so i went on steam and read the support it did a scan of my pc to see if i passed for steam games, everything passed expect the video drivers. it said i had a 8600 GT(correct) i had 162.18 driver(correct) and that my drivers were out of date and that the severity was very high, watever that means. they gave a recommendation of installing the 91.47 drivers, i tried to but it says they are no compatible with my hardware(8600 GT) so i couldnt get those, they only drivers i have found that are compatible with my card is the 162.18 and the 158.22 drivers both stil result in the games crashing, anyone know why they would recommend that driver or how i can get it to work if that possible.
Who made your graphics board ?
Perhaps you should check the manufacturer's website, seems to be a pain to find older drivers for 8600 series on nVidia's ...
I don't really recommend 3rd party drivers like Omega, but if you are having problems, you could at least try them and if not, just roll back to the previous driver.
Personally I feel Omegas are fine after using them for my X800XT for some time now. It's not just that it's a matter of not getting certain things on the Cat drivers to work either (mainly proper dual display support), it's that they actually perform overall with less lag. A few times someone has suggested a software problem might be caused by these drivers (which no game publisher "recommends") and I tried uninstalling them and installing the Cats and the performance went down. Omegas are just the stock drivers modified and streamlined for more efficiency, period. There's a FEAR forum moderator who is a ATI fan all the way, claiming never to have had any problems with their drivers. Then one day he mentioned on the forum he'd been using Omegas for a while. Now that was definitely enlightening.
I never said Omega drivers were bad, just some people have had issues with them. I actually had great luck with Omega drivers on several cards!
just went to the omega drivers those drivers are so old it wont work with my card

Omega drivers are currently only for ATI cards. Try downloading the 162.22 drivers from Nvidia's site. They should be compatible with yoru 8600GT NVIDIA Drivers Just click Graphics Drivers, then Geforce 8 series, and then your OS and hit Go.
Well I run on an 8600GTS.. and I run Steam games and Battlefield 2, Rather nicely. 60+ on Steam games on max settings, minus the anti-alias. I just use whatever drivers windows update give me.

162.22? do u mean 162.18? i have the latest driver that comes up when i do the graphics>8 series>windows xp that what driver i get (162.18)
I've read too that there's a 162.22 now, but it appears to be for Vista only so far: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_162.22.html So Omegas are no longer made for Nvidia, I didn't know that. Not surprising I guess being as he does it for free and has very little time just to try and keep the ATI ones close to current Cat releases. I think he's about 3 builds behind even on the ATIs right now, but I wouldn't be without them. God bless OmegaMan! :bows:
