Could you cite your source on that^?
Anyway, from my perspective, it seems likely that we will see updates to the top of the line ATi and Nvidia graphics cards sometime before Christmas.
And Intel and AMD have new desktop processors due out in the first quarter 2008.
i am looking to upgrade everything i have a 6800 at mo at its letting me down game wise and performance wise and am lost with developments components . I was aiming to upgrade early next year so jsut wanted to know what i can expect to be out .

If your waiting for early next year to upgrade don't get caught in a loop..say when 2008 comes around you hear about new hardware coming out in 3 months...so you wait. Then when those 3 months pass by you hear more new hardware coming out later on in the year..so you wait some more..and so on and so on.
true but i have set a limit to wait which will be march - april time as my 6800 as all you prolly know better than i do aint great.
If all goes as stated by manufacturers there should be a lot of good stuff out by end of first quarter '08. So you have a bit of a buffer with that time line, but not much.
:naughty:Cheers omen i guess by late jan , early feb people will know whats around the corner. As that is the time i am thinking of researching and buying. My 6800 is crap .
It is useless to talk now about upgrate if you only want to upgrade 3-4 months from now
Yeah nick, like arcade implied much is only rumor at this point so for some things like video cards you actually have to wait a while to see what will come next let alone how well it will perform.
Several months ago I was planning to build a E6700, 8800GTX, 2GB RAM system, but I decided to wait when I heard talk of quad cores already being written for and the 9800GTXs supposedly will have 3 times the speed of an 8800GTX with 1 billion transistors.
I am speculating now it will take maybe at least until end of '08 before everything I want is available and affordable, or at least not astronomical in price. I have a feeling it will be well worth the wait though.
Much of my reason for waiting is there are no shared cache quads with all cores on one layer yet. AMD will soon release one but I'm really hoping Intell will make one.
