medicfodwow prices are way high

You must be referring to the AMD prices, right? I'm wishing I still had the $460 I spent 4 months ago on my 4400+.

The e6600 for $316 outperforms everything AMD has right now, including the $1000+ top of the line socket AM2 FX-62. AMD better hurry up with K8-L, as they're looking horribly inadequate in terms of price/performance compared to the Core 2 Duo. It may be 6 or more months though before K8-L drops by the looks of it.

There are plenty of online benchmarks to show what I'm referring to, just google it. Here's one below:

I guess I should've waited on Conroe before building my rig. Oh well, there's always something better on the horizon, so no worries. :)

Well, Intel said that they've released these processors, but I sure as hell can't find one (either as a lone processor, or in a new computer....

Exactly, technology moves so fast that it a couple of months you can pick up an identical PC to the one you brought for quite a bit cheaper or a faster one for the same amount of money. I never upgrade just to get a better score in 3DMark or to brag about my PC I upgrade so I can encode faster, play games smoother and just generally have a faster computer. I will be upgrading my PC in April 2007 and I will pick up a mid range good clocking CPU from either Intel or AMD, the decider will be the best bang for buck. I can't understand why people with a AMD64 FX60 would go out and buy a Conroe when their system is perfectly fine and will be for many years, but I guess some people have just got to have the fastest.

Well, even if Intel crush AMD, and they won't, IBM will be breaking in to the market some time in the next few years with their hideously fast processors (300GHz at room temperature at last test). They just need a sympathetic motherboard manufacturer to support their socket.

AMD is already answering Conroe with 4 by 4. If you havent heard of it, it is two dual core CPU's on one motherboard. AMD prices will drop but not to the numbers specified in this thread. At most the price will drop 100$ per CPU. IBP is also going to be coming into the market soon with there oen line up of CPU's and then we will see major price drops.

There was an article about the price drops a month ago. Here is a link http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20060612-7034.html I'm waiting a couple more weeks to upgrade and see what happens.

There is one PC with the processor in it. I read a review in PC gamer. The processor is overclocked from 2.66 to 3.6ghz. They said this is the best jump in computer hardware ever. The pentium is almost 6 years old. It is time for a new line or processors.

I will be getting a Conrone 6600. The price is great, it has the same clock as my current processor( :p), and it looks like the entire line will be smoking fast.

At that point, AMD plans to slash prices on the dual-core Athlon 64 X2 by 25 to 50

Very nice!

The FX series won't be affected by this cut though, will it? :uhm:

A little off topic but with all the new intel cpu's will my amd am2 3800+ (single core) still be a fast/good processor as my brother wants it in his new computer.

It's still fine.

Just because new cores/processors are being released, it doesn't mean that older ones are automatically considered 'crap'.

If your brother wants a new computer, I would suggest getting newest hardware. But it all depends on your budget.

My 3700+ still does everything I want it too. So your 3800+ should be fine.

The real question is; how long until these older processors are insufficient for future programs? Seeing as Dual Core is the future.
