I was thinking of starting with Corsair XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) on the Asus 680i. Then upgrading to 4GB to run SLI. Not sure if its worth going higher than DDR2 800. Is the extra money worth it for the sticks with the heat sinks (DHX I think), such as the Dominator? Or is this $87 memory right here more than enough?....
Psht. Memory doesn't need to be fancy. I've never had heat sinks on any of my RAM sticks until I bought new RAM last week.
That's what I bought. They're good, cheap and got the heatsinks. The ones you have chosen are just as fine.
EDIT: Plus the mail-in rebate is nice on the ones you chose. Dirt cheap =P
Oh ok. I like that OCZ memory.
Either RAM is good. I have the Corsair and I've actually been able to change the timings to 4-4-4-12 with no problems. However, that OCZ looks really good; especially since it can go to 1T instead of the 2T that the Corsair sits at.
There is really no point in going to the Dominator, all I really think that the larger heat sink does is allow you to overclock the RAM better due to lower temperatures, and allow for lower latencies.
Both are great but I trust Corsair more, it is better for overclock
You probably won't even need to overclock the OCZ the timings are so low.
