Alright so I'm finalizing my parts list for my new build and almost have everything i think but cant decide on cpu cooler, my parts will be

Intel Core i7-950 Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 Corsair DOMINATOR-GT Kit DDR3 6GB PC-16000/2000Mhz Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD5870 1GB Ultra Durable Corsair HX-750 750W ATX Modular Power Supply(will this power everything?) NZXT Phantom Case

I might oc cpu a bit, nothing to extreme but not to sure at the moment. price wise don't want to spend more then $200 and would love for something under or around $150, not 100% on water cooling either but I'm open to suggestions.

also any other advice about any other parts i have on the list might have a suitable replacement or so everything runs well together.

Thanks in advance for the help

Go grab one of these. :) It won't cool your GPU as well as your CPU, but for a CPU-only loop, you should be able to hit 4.5 with very little trouble.

I wouldn't bother spending the extra money on the GTs though. In synthetic benchmarks, 2GHz memory will look nice, but it means crap-all in real-world anything. Get some good 1600MHz memory, or even 1333, and spend the extra on a bigger hard drive or a custom water loop for your CPU and GPU or something.

Alright I'll look for some new ram.

A few questions about water cooling, are kits easy to put together? How often do you have to change fluid if at all?

cheers

If you take your time and do things right - the same as you would when building a rig - then you'll be fine. They're not a whole lot harder. And people top off the fluid level every few months if need be, and flush it once a year.

That's a good unit for the price Daed mentioned, but make sure you're willing to take up two optical drive bays mounting it's reservoir/pump assembly. With the case you mentioned you'd still have 3 op bays to use, but it would narrow the choices of some others you may eventual want to change to.

thought i might see if i can revive this thread i have narrowed down to two heat sinks i have decided to just go air cooling not water cooled due to budget. my choices are thermalright silver arrow or noctua nh-d14 both at same price that i can get. Anyone got either of these? or can give me a recommendation?

I have read on several forums that the Silver Arrow is an amazing cooler, beating out Noctua

The_Daedalus;5420658Corsair H70. ;)

That was my first plan but at $70 then the noctua or Thermalright its not worth it as the high end air coolers out perform it, the only reason i would get one is cause they look nice haha but as theres no window on my new case this is moot point.

Yeah Choc i have seen a few forums with slighty lower temps on the TR so im leaning towards that at the moment
