Yes, it'll work. Yes, you should have enough power, and yes, you'll notice a performance increase.

NO. It will not work. AM2+ chips work in AM3 boards but not the other way around.

Obviously. According to the overview, the board is AM3.

You should see a pretty big performance increase in CPU intensive games and programs. Those Phenom II's are second to none but the i7, and if gaming is your main priority, they are actually just as good of a buy. They are the best choice for a gaming rig if you can't, or don't want too, throw more money at a i7 setup IMO.

Well the best CPUs for gaming will be the i9s, when they arrive. 32nm i7s with more L2 cache. :D

Wait, I thought AM3 chips worked in most AM2+ motherboards, but not the other way around due to AM3 chips having the memory controller on the CPU, and therefore, if you attempted to put an AM2 chip in an AM3 only board, it wouldn't have a memory controller. Am I wrong?

Awesome it should help with tf2 lag im having on severs with 24 or more players awesome plus i don't have the money atm to go intel otherwise i would of should of a long time plus parts in the aus aren't cheap nor a games.:)

Edit would i be even better paying an extra $10 for this CPU and will it make much of difference?

Definitely get the 955 Black Edition. You can't go wrong with that, and since its only $10 more there is really no reason not too. It will overclock much easier than the 945 will too. Black Edition = Unlocked multiplier.

Maybe. That could also be your internet connection though.
