I'm wanting to build a new system here (as you might know i already made a couple threads about it) and i have a question, what do you think would be a better choice in terms of CPUs and Video cards: what would be better to get: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ "Winchester" / ATI Radeon X800XL or AMD Athlon 64 3500+ "Clawhammer/Hammer" / nVIDIA Geforce 6600GT i got to thinking about the 6600GT, since i play all my games at 1024x768 with no AA/AF it should be fine for awhile of gaming at high settings, then i could just replace it later when the 6800GT's/Ultras are cheaper, and the money saved would let me get the 3500+. either way the build comes to around $560 with a nForce4 Ultra board and a case with a 500W PSU (which i would probably replace), what do you think would be better since i want to spend the money i'm saving for it the best way i can smilie.gif

I'd go with the 3000+ and X800XL, but if you can raise an extra £20 then you can get a 3200+ which would give you an extra 200MHz processor speed.

I would get the 3500+ and 6600GT with an SLI motherboard, and as soon as you have another $180 saved up, by a second 6600GT and use them in SLI. Performs just like a 6800GT, maybe even an Ultra.

Eh, SLI mobo are expensive for 939. Go with the +3000 and X800Xl then oc them to a +3500(2.2ghz) and a X800XT.

An SLI mobo will only cost you $20 or so more than a mobo with one PCIe slot. Get the GIGABYTE GA-K8NU-SLI Socket 939obfor $146. That plus an XFX 6600GT (SLI ready) and a 3500+ Venice will only cost you $587 on newegg.com. Downgrade to a 3200+ and it will cost you $509. You can assume $100 for the case and power supply, so your up to $609 for now, and as soon as you get another $169, you can buy another XFX 6600GT, and without having to replace any other parts you will have yourself a monster gaming rig.

NO WAY is that $600... a X800XL is $270 http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code=190527 and a 3200+ Venice is only $195 http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=3200%2B+venice&btnG=Search+Froogle&scoring=p So for future thoughts look prices up on www.froogle.com and www.pricewatch.com and the wildcard, ebay

Never buy one card and plan to add another with SLI later. The cards have to be identical. That means, if you buy a certain model now and plan to get the same later, they could have either changed the design of the model or stopped selling it all together. Trust me, don't buy an SLI board and one card planning to get another later, something always changes with cards. They have to be the same batch number and everything. Just go with the X800XT - it'll outperform two 6600GTs when overclocked anyway, and costs half the price.
