i just installed a new cpu and psu and now after playing any games for 15min to an 1 hour i will hear a short crackle through my speakers and then it will lock up and the only thing i can do is press the power button no ctrl, alt, del. the information on the screen remains and after rebooting it will be fine for while usually. heres my specs 2.4b p4,aopen ax4per,400w spi psu, radeon 9800pro 128, 512 pc2700. also the hardware monitor that came with my mobo says my +12v line is at 11.25v cpu temp never excedes 45c but my case is small so my vid card could be getting hot.

Run some stress test softwares to determin if heat is causing a lockup. Run opengl & direct 3d benchmark to determin if 3d error is causing lockup.

im a noob so i ask will these tests actually tell me if my gpu is hot? i know my cpu is cool. also i tested my psu with a voltmeter today and it read 11.31 volts at idle. I can run 3dmark and aquamark no problem but it might be different if i ran them several times in a row.

A CPU stress test will load your CPU to determin if heat is causing a lockup. www.download.com have freewares.

You have to isolate the problem so you can address the core.
