Which Zen are you actually talking about? And which iPod are you comparing it to?

Creative Zen V Plus 4 GB MP3 Video Player, Black/Blue
4GB flash memory capacity
1.5" OLED color display
Rechargeable lithium ion battery
Up to 15 hour(s) playback
FM radio, video playback, calendar, voice recorder
iPod nano 4G, Silver
4GB capacity
New enhanced interface
2" video display
This is what I mean. Click on link for more details. I-Pod uses touch control to move and Zen a joystick, no big deal but I thought I should tell you. Also I checked and the quality is the same. Zen for 4GB is $100 and I-Pod for 4GB is $150.
The V Plus is actually a generation older than the current iPods so, to be honest, it's cheaper for a reason. It's larger, yet has a smaller screen and it's not as technologically advanced as the Nano in general.
PS - I dislike iPods but I wouldn't have a V Plus over a Nano, if I'm honest.

I would agree. The new iPod Nano has better battery life too, along with an awesome screen resolution, and just sleekness in general.
That awesome looking OLED screen with it's sharp colors and extremely high contrast ratio comes at a price. The blue color spectrum on OLEDs has a lifespan of only 20,000 hrs. That's one third the life of LCD. OLED is cheaper to manufacture than LCD but it gives the phrase "disposable age" a whole new meaning. I like the new Nano and it's 2" screen, a close friend of mine just got one as a gift. I never have liked the fact that you have to use iTunes to load the songs on iPods though. It's clearly a marketing ploy to sell the crap 128 bit songs on the Apple store. I have a Musicmatch account, now called Yahoo Music Plus and the songs stream at 192kbps, which is noticably better quality that 128kbps.
