Is it worth upgrading to DDR3 or not is there much performance boost over DDR2 or should i wait for the price drop in DDR3?

On AM2/3 there isn't really a noteworthy difference. In fact AM3 chips overclock better on DDR2.

If you don't have to, I don't really see why you should. It won't offer you that much of a boost in performance.

It doesn't really offer any boost performance, you only really need it if you have an i7 Mobo and an i7 CPU.

Adding to that, DDR3 only offers are noticeable difference over DDR2 when you use high-end kits.

You can always overclock your DDR2 and tweak the timings if you want to close the gap a little.
