well its not liek im goign to be extrem gaming on it...i jsut really want it for generals...and school, but i men if im going to get a laptop i might as well get the best one avialble...ill do some research adn compare the together, but i really need the mobility, and it will most likely be plugged in all the time so baterry life isnt a big problem to me, if i take it in to school i wont be playing games, and another question i have the choice between teh Nvidia Geforce 6800 Go vs teh ATI Radeon Mobility 9600...im only familiar with Nvidia so i have no idea which is better , which yould u guys suggest i go with... im only looking at laptops that have a proccessor going at 3.8 ghz.
3.8ghz processor= A speedy fireball on your lap. I hope you wear think pants if you set it on your lap;)
The mobility 9600 is a 9600 series card for the laptops. Its about 3 year old but does excellent in older direct x 8 and early direct x9 games. The Go 6800 kills it though. The 6800 series are still near top of the line cards with full shader model 3.0 support.
If you are going for the 3.8ghz processor(why you need one for school work unless its autoCAD or 3dsmax) get the go6800.
thank you so much...well its coming with a bunch of games, im a bit of a gamer but the only games i will be playing will be major RTS's. Command and Conquer, Age of Empires 3, Civilization, etc.
Intel has the clock speed, but the internal architecture is crap. AMD over Intel for games. Intel for multi-media and multi-tasking.
Both, Dell and Alienware, sell very good gaming desktops. The downside is, that they are both too expensive for what you get. Dell desktops are very picky when it comes to upgrade your RAM, because a lot of RAM's don't run on Dell desktops. I don't know about Alienware though. I don't think that two 6800 cards in SLI mode is worth the money, because there are not that many games supporting SLI mode yet. I recommend a GeForce 7800 GT. In most Games it performs even better than two 6800 Ultra cards in SLI mode. And maybe a year later you can buy another 7800 GT for SLI mode for way less money. ;)
I have an idea. Buy a 2 dollar calculator and teach yourself how to count all over again. :D
No, I don't know where that came from. :wtf:
Foolishonebut i have to shop off of ebay due to my low budget lol ($300:bawl:) but it looks liek itll be real easy to get a brand new alienware area 51 7700 for that

im only looking at laptops that have a proccessor going at 3.8 ghz
A laptop with a 3.8GHz P4 and a 6800Go will run you well into the $3000 range, even on eBay and especially if its an alienware. If you think you're going to get a computer like that for $300, you're crazy. Even on eBay, a 3.8GHz processor by itself costs more than $450. Now, if $300 was a typo and you really meant $3000 (which I would hardly consider a low budget) you might stand a chance. I did come across an Alienware Area 51 7700 on eBay with a current bid of $200, but that's because it has been on ebay for 17 minutes. I expect that it, or any laptop close to its specs will sell for several thousand dollars.
I think I got a pretty good deal on my system, and it cost me barely under $700. It doesn't even compare to the laptop you've layed out, and its cheaper since its a desktop. Specs in my sig.
im gogin custom desktop getting teh parts off of ebay.
Nvida Geforce 6800 Ultra (or 7800 if there is one available)
Intel D945 Mother Board
Intel Pentuim D Processor -Clock speed: 2.8 to 3.4 -Front Bus: 800 MHz
120 GB Harddrive
2 GB RAM
I can do that for little over 300 so im willing to do it, im gogin with inel becuase i need mroe multitasking then i need for extreme gaming, as i siad ill only be playing classic games (the best!, starcraft, read alert) and newer RTS's (Generals, Zero Hour, Act of War, etc.) so i dont need the kind of power AMD Athlon can give me on games such as doom 3, etc. that seems liek a pretty good setup, i have a case, keyboard, and screen, fan, and 450W power supply. case is ready for expansion up the wazoo any one see a problem with that setup that im over looking? if i need a better power supply i can basically get them for free off of ebay
