It seems that someone has already created a wrapper that allows you to utilize DirectX 10 enabled games (with graphics cards that can use it) outside of Windows Vista and in Windows XP.

Hmmm,... A 19 year old, claiming to have done what Microsoft says is "impossible". While we know Microsoft was blowing smoke, it should not be an easy task. It is rare for someone to be able to be able to compete, at such a young age. I don't know what to make of it.

I guess this kid could just be the representative for the group that accomplished this. It is possible, but it just sounds like a load of hooie.

If this does turn out to be true then it could cause more than a few problems for Microsoft's marketing appeal to gamers.

Heh, I wonder how many lawsuits this guy is going to get...

Hey, maybe MS said it was impossible only because they counted on that to get people buy VISTA, even though they could have made DX10 XP-compatible

Microsoft should keep it's mouth shut when it talks about what is impossible to hack. Vista was cracked and on the internet, what, 10 days before it was released?

So the ideas-man was 19, he probably had a keen team behind him.

IIRC someone was able to change a line in DX10 beta code from 0 to 1 and make it XP compatible. MS was supposed to clamp the lid on this and change some code to make it harder. The ease at which DX10 was able to be hacked to run on XP suggested that DX10 was written for both OS's and a line of code told it to only run on Vista.

Im also excited about the DX to Open GL 2.0 wrapper someone at ATI developed that would allow DX9 games to run on Linux with Open GL 2.0. All it did was convert DX9 calls to Open GL calls.

It was announced right before ATI was bought so we have yet to see if it will make it to light of day.

That would be the biggest boost for linux gamers in a long time, (though Wine is making inroads every day).

I'd like to know what happens to that too. A leak is probably on its way.

I want it because it would allow me to play games on Linux and give Windows the boot.

I think it was originally coded for both, but then M$ got the idea of making it Vista only so they would get more sales. Thats just what i think.
