1. Are there more than 10 " " cards? 2. Do they have to be so damn expensive? 3. Could I get a list of DirectX 10 compatible cards? I hope that last one isn't asking too much......

I dont know much about the current situation but dont you think you should wait till Direct X 10 games start being made mainstream so the prices of the DX10 cards go down, pointless buying now, theres no games that utilise it, youd be paying extra for something you cant use!

The nVidia G80 core and the ATI R600 core will be the first two released to sport DX10 compatibility. The R600 is set for a release around December of this year, with the G80 set for release sometime in Q2 of this year. They will both feature GDDR4 memory... the R600 will be 65nm at a clock speed of around 800MHz, while the G80 will be on a new 80nm process also with clockspeeds of around 800MHz. nVidia's G80 is also rumored to be the first true dual-core GPU on the market. They've both got lots of other goodies that I won't get in to. So basically, you can't buy them yet.

I'm just asking because I'm thinking strongly about making the leap to PCI-E but want to be ready for newer games like Crysis and UT2007. I only have $243, but I think If I get another job or two I could afford a new mobo and a DirectX 10-level card. Though I'll probably need a bigger power supply and a new case. I wish hardware upgrades could be software instead, you know, make the game smarter to take up less resource. Hardware prices are crazy enough right now......

There are no DX10 cards out and no cards that are DX10 compatible are out as of right now. DX10 cards wont come out until Vista ships due to Vista will be the only one that can use DX10. XP will not be able to use DX10. If you plan on building a Vista PC check out these links.

I get a 404 Error when I tried those links. :( ----- So what is everyone doing, just saving money to buy the DX10 cards when they come out?
