I have just recently downloaded the DirectX 9.0C October Release and the program dosen't seem to install. Everything runs smoothly until I reach the dsound.dll and dmusic.dll files. By then the system says it failed to install a required file claiming it may be corrupted. I have redownloaded this file many times and each has the same problem regardless if it's from Microsoft or not. I am currently using older DirectX sound files which cause most games to sound static-like or distorted this error also seemed to create artifacting in most of my games. Any help as to correct this problem is appreciated.

Have you tried uninstalling your previous version of DX? There are several thirdparty uninstallers avaliable for most versions of DX. Google it :)
Both files that fail to install is related to DirectSound. I would look towards the audioadapter for potential problems. Maybe there are some settings related to directsound that needs to be configured?
Hmm...here is a thought. Have you tried uninstalling your sound driver and then reinstalling it? Some of the driver files might be corrupted somehow... And as last resort, I think it would be best if you quick format your OS drive. I mean, who knows what problems this might cause in the future?
