Rookie_42Quite ironic seeing as Download.com is one of the prime distributors of Spyware-infected programs. :p

Well, they don't intentionally try to steer you towards the programs with Spyware. They do always promote the programs that ar good for your computer. For the most part, it's a terrrific site.

Indeed, but take a look at how many files they distribute weekly, then add the old adage of "There's always a few rotten apples"...

What about the number of files they distribut weekley?

Plus, if what is being downloaded is so bad, there is a Download.com member review score for the file. Almost every file has a descrition, and some members ratings/descriptions.

I think they tell people what programs contain spy-ware, so it's kind of everyones own responsibility. Although, I guess 3/4th of the people downloading those programs have no idea what spyware actually is.

My moms Dell 5100 came with a 90 day trial of Norton Internet Security, and the trial expired a few days ago. To try to convince us to renew the subscription it lets you know how many viruses and spyware it has blocked, and the number was something like 76,000. Nevertheless, I ran a scan and it came up with nothing. Anyway, people that point their fingers at Download.com are just making excuses. Sure it may carry lots of Spyware infected software, but thats only because it carrys lots of software in general. It's their fault for downloading the stuff.

Days like this make me really happy I use Linux. Don't have to worry about any of that crap.

You wouldn't have to worry about any of that, either, with the right stuff. I use McAfee (my dad loves it because we get it free) AdAware and a RegMech registry mechanic Works miracles. I do each together, at least once every two months, and my PC (with Windows XP and me surfing the web constantly) has never crashed or had any other problems.

Now I know better, and haven't had a crash in over a year!

Hehe, that reminds me of that anti-herpes commercial... Valtrex, that's it. "Now I've been outbreak free for almost a year! [Really quiet voice now rattles off the thousands of health risks associated with the medication]"
