Do you have an anti-virus? If so run it.

Perhaps you checked a box that prevented the display of the download progress. So when you try to download, it does, only you don't see the window acknowledging it. Watch your bandwidth and try to download something very large.

yes i have AVAST free version, i had it on my other pc and it blocked and deleted all viruses that the pc found. i ran a full system scan about 3 days ago and i found 1 virus, it's name had "IE" in it so i deleted the virus hoping it would work again. but no it doesn't!

Only having run Avast doesn't necessarily mean you have no malware. It's possible something hijacked your browser settings.

Here's a good list of scanning programs, all free:

a-Squared (Emergency Kit if you just want the free scanner part) CCleaner Glary Utilities GMER HijackThis Malwarebytes SpyBot SUPERAntispyware

Maybe if you can get someone else to download them then transfer them to your drive with a USB flash drive or something.

What browser are you using and have you tried restoring it to default settings? The stuff flagged with IE in it could have been Content IE5 (IE temporary files).

Content IE5 files btw are some of the primary files vulnerable to exploits when using IE as a browser because MS STILL uses an index.dat file in the cookies folder, which tracks the URLs you frequent, and it's a spyware loophole. CCleaner, one of the free tools I mentioned above, quickly and easily cleans out the index.dat file, along with a lot of other stuff.
