first of all thanks for all the help you tech guys have given me. :bows: is it possible to have a set of SLI videocards, and a small, stand-alone videocard, or even two sets of SLI cards? for example: if i put 4 8600GTS into this, would they all be able to work?

There is Quad SLI now, but that depends on if the board's chipset supports quad SLI. That particular board does support Quad SLI, so the answer is yes... As for a third stand-alone video card ( 2 in SLI and 1 by itself), I don't believe there is any support for such a thing. Why would you want an extra stand-alone video card anyway?

That would be an extremely idiotic thing to do. Buying 4 low-medium end cards doesn't make one really powerful machine. Each GTS would cost you $150 right? 4x150=600. With $600 you could get two 8800GTS in SLI or just one 8800GTX. Both of which would blow away 4 8600GTS's.

due to my small budget, i want to start with a low to mid-range video card, and add to it later.

I suggest you simply wait untill your budget doubles. Youll be better off that way.

yeah probably, but i want to be able to play crysis when it comes out, mabe a little after, but i dont want to wait too long. most of the customer reviews for the 8600gts say it cna run bioshock on full settings, 2 of them would be ust fine for me. i would like to have an 8800 gts, but there really big, and expensive. also, would quad-sli require me to have 4 of the same cards, or could i have two of one kind and 2 of another?

I strongly doubt you'll be able to run 8x00's on that board in normal SLI let alone Quad SLI

The 8x00's were meant to be run on a nforce6 chipset or higher for sli compatibility and the drivers are not enabled for quad sli using the g80 chipset (any of the 8x00's)

Also, if you were able to enable quad sli using those graphics cards on that motherboard, it would NOT be the full x16 acceleration, it would be x8 for all or x4 for each (I'm not sure of the electrical change in the slots when running sli on that chipset.)

Forget about quad SLI. It's a very rare, very expensive shiny thing that they paraded around at a few trade shows; it's not a practical product designed for real world use and, as n0e pretty much said, the motherboards that could do it are now outdated anyway.

You don't need two. A single 8800 GTS 320 will run any game on the market at full settings, as far as I can tell. I can run Bioshock, World In Conflict, CoD4 and UT3 at full blast with no lag whatsoever.
