You know how old DVD drives at some point start to vibrate and produce a lot of noise every time the PC tries to read data?

What can be done about this except for buying a new drive?

Also, is there a way to disable the automatic DVD access when I open explorer or when the computer starts?

For what is about computer start, I suppose removing it from boot sequence should be enough. I never had automatic access to it when starting explorer, though ?_?

Might as well replace them when they get like that. You can buy em for under $20 so it's not exactly a big expense.

Take it out & smash it on the ground. Get a new one. They are cheap & your current one is dying.

Why resorting to violence against hardware that had served you well, just because after a while it begins to be noisy or less efficient ? :/

Not sure boot sequence will help as it seems to be Windows that reads from it after Windows is started.

Until now I also just replaced CD drives when they got noisy, I just wondered whether there might not be an easy solution for the problem.

This man must be followed.

Smash it into a billion pieces and pay $15 to get a new one :)

Oh...so sorry...lol... Take it out, sit it down, explain to it that the two of you have had a good run, but it is time to move on to a younger more attractive model. Is that better? j/k
