I have my friends E-Machine. After it shows WinXP Home loading, it shows the mouse cursor with a black screen, and nothing else happens. Anyone have any idea what it could be?

It has a new video card and motherboard in it that were working fine, so fortunately it's not an E-Machine mobo.

reformat it. Sometimes windows installs dont like when you put in another motherboard on an OEM windows install.

Sounds more like a faulty shell to me.

win+r - to see if the run box shows, if not, the shell isn't loading at all. so ctrl+alt+del to bring the taskmanager open run and type in explorer.

This should restart the shell.

I would say that as well. Its always a good idea to reformat when changing a mobo.

Was this happening at all before you changed the mobo, or just after?
