I have had two very annoying problems for the last few weeks, which in a brief moment of wisdom just a few seconds ago, I realised are connected. Problem number one: About 90% of the songs I download from LimeWire pop up a message that says "LimeWire has detected that this file is corrupted, would you like to continue?", about half of these songs turn out to be about 23 minutes of nothing, while to other people they work perfectly fine. Problem number two: The majority of the installation .exe files I download (BF2 demo, iTunes setup... etc.) either give me I/O errors when I attempt to run them, or say that a file is missing or corrupted and stop the installation. Also, my recent installation of AIM seems to be highly unstable, while other people seem to be having no problems with it... this could be caused by a corruption in the installation file. The bottom line is, every file that I download from the internet is completely intact when I download it, but ends up corrupted on my PC. What on my PC is corrupting my downloads?

I had the same problem with the LimeWire (although I use Gnoozle, they are both the same network I think). I would get the corrupted file and 23 minutes of nothing. I ended up just giving up and torrenting the whole album and then just deleting all but the song I wanted. I havn't had any problems with any of my other downloaded files yet though.

Actually, I disabled my AVG Free Edition "Resident Sheild", and not only did the iTunes setup file download without any corruptions... but it downloaded at 570kbps vs the 11kbps I got a few minutes ago. What was it doing to my files?

Odd Limwire has no troubles with downloading things with its linux edtion. But to anwser your question it could be the virus scanner scaning somthing in the files you downloaded that it did not like.

the rules

The promotion of peer-to-peer client software is also strictly forbidden. I wasn't promoting the software, I was just wondering why all my songs are 20 minutes of nothing. Kids, never use peer-to-peer client software including, but not limited to, LimeWire. It's bad. Edit: The only word in this post thats supposed to be italicised is "never"... not sure why the whole thing is... oh well.

It must have been locking the .exe's

MSN Messenger won't let you send a .exe file directly over if it's not zipped. Security risk. Perhaps AVG was doing something similar, reason why deactivating it worked.

About the songs being 20 some minutes of nothing. Spoofs. A reason not to download illegally. You sometimes don't get what you want, thus causing you to waste more time getting it. Aggravation, guaranteed.
