Alrighty, for christmas I got a really neat new headset. It's very nice, comfy, great sound quality and everything.
However, it sports one feature which confuses me a little bit. So, the box states that with the headphones comes "Dolby Headphone technology which transforms 2-channel stereo into a kick-ass, five-channel, full-range surround sound experience for gaming, music and movies."
This is done by a little USB audio card which I plug the headset into. Since the headset came with no relevant documentation, I'm not actually sure how to use these properly. I also have a 5.1 speaker setup on my computer, and to use it in-game I need to set whatever settings the game offers to 5.1.
Here however, I am a tad confused. The description mentiones both 2-channel stereo, and 5.1. So the question is, in-game do I set everything to 5.1, stereo, or perhaps (in some games) Headphones?
FYI, The Headset is a Plantronics Gamecom headset, if it helps.
Set it to 5.1 and you will have to change between sound sources whenever you game so it will output sound to whichever device you want it to.
Well, the headphones seem to automatically intercept any new audio which was turned on after plugging in the USB. Which is kind of neat actually, as it allows me to play music on my speakers, while I have the game and people talking in my headphones. All I have to do is turn on my music player, then plug in the headphones and start the game.
