I usually stick to the FH area, but I decided that this is the obvious place for this, my question. A little while back, I inherited a ViewSonic P810-4 (one of the old professional 21" CRTs that weighs as much as you do). After updating my graphics card to the newest drivers, I went to the Catalyst Control Center because...well, I'm a settings whore. There I found, to my astonishment, that my seemingly outdated monitor could support up to 1920x1440 @ 60 hertz or (almost more surprising) 800x600 @ 160 hertz. I played with that for a while and all of the settings worked correctly. However, Windows and all of my games don't recognize that it can support those kinds of resolutions/refresh rates. The monitor driver that Windows lists matches my monitor and I have tried the manual overrides in my games. So, is there any way to get my system/games to go to those settings?

IIRC, I think most games only work on certain settings. I think you do hve to override to work, but thats all I know.
