Is it possible to get Windows media player to play FLV files? My brother's computer which is a windows vista seems to be able to play FLV files on his WMP, but back on my XP it doesn't... I don't exactly know what codecs or plug-ins he has so I thought I would ask here, since my winamp is being a POOOP and not playing FLV files properly. Only 1 is able to play but I'm unable to use the progress bar. The other FLV files allows me to use the progress bar but theres no video at all.... P.S. For the files AVI, WMW and WMA which is the smallest file? Since their qualities are all pretty much the same. If theres a fourth better file type do let me know; in case FLVs cannot be played in WMP at all, I'm gonna convert them.
Personally, I use the KLM codec pack. There are packs, but that should do the trick for any video extension.
Download K-Lite Mega Codec Pack (standard or Lite should do ya fine)
Hey thanks man, for the fast response. Although a number of my videos got screwed when I converted them to FLV again since WMW was larger. Now they don't play videos at all only sounds. Plus I found out AVI was smaller than both so I might be converting them to AVI to save space. EDIT: Dammit, I think my converter can't convert the same file a second time... I tried converting the WMW to AVI and the video still stays blank.
I think VLC can play FLV files :hmm: ... in case it wouldn't work, the CCCP should allow your other video players to play them (at least, that's the codec pack I'm using and I can play FLVs with an old freeware version of BS Player).

This is what happens when you don't have a codec installed for AVI. Try the K-Lite Codec pack. :)

FLV is a flash format designed for web use (i.e. YouTube etc) and that's all it's good for. The only reason you should be using FLV files is if it's a video you've downloaded from somewhere that happens to be in the FLV format. Don't bother converting your own stuff into FLV.

I personally like the divx (.avi) and x264 (.mkv) formats best for quality/size. Wish I knew what I was doing with the settings though, encoding video is not my strong suit.

Agreed. (I'm not that good with video encoding either. =p)

Well, FLV seemed like a smaller file compared to WMW thats why I wanted to convert them. But now I know AVI is smaller, yeah...
AVI is a container, that means nothing about the size. You may have uncompressed avi (then it will be huge size) as well as you may have various more or less goodly compressed videos.
