If I upgraded from my current CPU (XP3200+) to say an Athlon 64 3500+ and kept all my current hardware (GeForce 6800 (AGP), 1.5gig PC3200, Audigy2 ZS Plat Pro) How much of a boost in FPS do you think I would receive from just increasing my CPU and upgrading my mobo? Im considering it, but I just am wondering if it is worth the $300.00-$400.00 price tag. I want to run DOD:S smooth and boy...it isnt happening.

BTW full current specs:

Windows XP Pro (Full Install) SOYO SY-KT600 DRAGON PLUS v.1.0 1.5 Gig PC3200 Corsair AMD Athlon XP3200+ Creative Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS Platinum Pro EVGA GeForce 6800 128mb 200Gig SATA Western Digital 19" UltraSharp Dell 1905FP MX518 Optical Logitech Mouse Everglide Mouse Pad

This message is hidden because LedZep is on your ignore list.

cant help ya, but i can guess.

say you have a P4 3.0 . upgrade to a 3000+ venice and you should see 10-13 fps more.

You know 1337, you could have just unignored him.

He was asking about an upgrade from a AthlonXP 3200+ to a A64 3500+, and keeping his old stuff.

DOD:S isn't smooth with your stuff?!? well i dunno, but n XP3200 is a lot older than the 64. See if anyone will buy the older chip off you (family, friends, hobo down the park). That way the price tag won't seem so big.

I'd say it would at least make it playable... I haven't used athlon stuff since an XP1800+, but if it ain't smooth then its prolly at like 20 fps now, I'd expect it to go up to at least 70.

You can reach 60 FPS if you strip the game through the console. Maybe you dont think its that important to see light reflect of someone teeth in battle, then again, maybe you do..

Nope I do not care about reflecting teeth haha, I guess Ill have to go look up the console commands and start turning shit off. BTW how do you set a file so that the commands are excuted everytime the game is turned on in DOD:S or even CS:S?

You would see improvment in games if you go to the newer 3500+ in games. But wait to 2006 before you buy any thing now, AMD post to come out with a new processor socket and every thing.

I would get a 3700+ because if im right that has 1mb L2 cache and the 3500+ only has 512kb L2 Cache and with that extra L2 Cache you will get like a 20% improvement over the 3500+

Clock for clock, the San Diego's extra cache gives you maybe a 10% boost in performance, which is itself heavily dependent on what the task at hand is (some are very cache-intensive, others latency-sensitive, and still more don't give a rip one way or the other).
