Everytime I buy one....

New version coming soon, does not look like a massive change but the silver side trim is back... and the screen is bigger

Ah well, glad I paid that bit extra to get a free upgrade after a year.

I inherited an iPhone 4S from my Dad, cleaned for me to put my own SIM in and use.

It lasted 3 months before it just broke.  When I asked the folks at the mobile shop, they said all the 4S's were coming in malfunctioning.  Hit a predetermined failure date, an expiration probably intentionally tested in advance <.<

I hate Apple with violence that leads me to grudgingly accept Microsoft's stupidity.  And then that loops back in on itself, because I hate Apple for making me defend Microsoft!

That is called planned obsolescence. Apple deliberately makes it break at a set time, so they can make you buy next year's then next year's, then next year's, and so on. That is the entire reason why they are able to make a new iThingy every single year, and it is always a smashing success.

Plus Apple Fanboys will line the streets outside of the Apple Stores to get the new hotness.

They will even bring a tent, and camp outside the door......That is why Apple is able to get away with planned obsolescence. They know SOMEONE will camp outside to buy the latest models on launch day.

It is rather frustrating. There are only a few hardware-related factors that cause obsolescence these days. It's easier than ever to make robust, reliable hardware. Clean up the software so we don't need new hardware to keep up with your bloated software. Ironically, Apple is better about minimizing bloat in its software than its major competitors, but my point remains.
