Hi,

Lately, my PC has been doing weird things (games crashing, games momentairly, and regularily, frezzing) and I'm sure it's my video drivers. I have an X800XT VIVO Platinum, and currently have the Catalyst dirvers that came with it installed.

I need some new ones, so I was wondering whether just to upgrade the Catalyst, or get something else, and hopefully better?

Suggestions?

Well you're supposed to upgrade your drivers everytime a new version comes out. So go and update your drivers. There are no "good" drivers for your card, they're all made by ATi [except for nVidia cards] and the latest version is almost always the best. Clicky. As for your card, I'd say it's fine and its got a good year or two in it.

You neglected Omega drivers. They're ostensibly tweaked for gaming performance, but I've never really bothered to benchmark them before. Otherwise, you're pretty well stuck with whatever ATI or nVIDIA have out at the moment.

The Omega drivers are reported to do better. http://www.omegadrivers.net/ You get the option for faster performance (higher framerate) or better detail (better quality) during the installation. EDIT: C38368 beat me to it :) I guess I shouldn't keep windows open for 15 minutes before replying...

I downloaded that latest catalyst for my bros 9200, and it went all unstable, and it flashed black sometimes (the monitor went off), i only did it to see if BF2 would work, and to my surprize the logo showed up when i clicked on the demo! But i uninstalled the drivers instead of playing BF2 just in case i screwed up his system. I fi was goin to replace his 9200 with my 9550, what would i have to do? Unistall drivers etc?

I used to use the omega drivers but they were way unstable... I kept getting freezes and crashes. I went back to Catalyst and everthing worked fine. BTW i have an X800 XT too. But i only used the omega drivers when i was using my old 9800 PRO. Havent tried then on my X800 XT yet.....Not sure if i want to. And morgster, Yes u will have to unistall all the drivers associated with the 9200 card.
