Im still in high school and I just started a clan with my friends. They have all agreed to pitch in and help pay for a site, game, and a VOIP server. Anyone got any suggestions. My current site is hosted by Freewebs. Its free of course. I have my forum hosted by InvisionFree.
For a dedicated server that can do everything you want you're looking at $150 a month. The advantage is that if you want more than one game server it's more economical than renting them individually. The disadvantage is the price if you literally only want one game server. No doubt they are available for less than $150, but the one we have costs that. If you host your site on that server, you'll need a domain name which I believe cost roughly $10 a year.
Doing it seperately, $10 a year for the domain name and $5 a month for basic website hosting. You may have to spend more for features like PHP and a MySQL database (used by most forums).
Around $10 a month should get you a 30-slot TeamSpeak 2 server. Ventrilo prices are similar, but usually a little higher.
As for a game server, you're looking at roughly $2-$3 per slot although it depends on the game. More resource-intensive games generally cost more, for example Battlefield 2142 costs more per slot than CounterStrike Source. It's also worth mentioning that although it's priced per slot it's usually fixed at certain levels, e.g. 16, 24, 32, 48 and 64. What I'm saying is that you can't get a server for literally like 4 or 5 people for only $10-$15 a month; you're probably looking at more like $30 minimum.
So basically, either $150 a month or $45+ a month (plus $10 a year).
Alright thanks but that seems a bit to far out of my price range. Remember this is a clan for friends that live near where I live. We all go to the same school. Im looking for companies that will allow us to rent a server (16 person most likely) for a low price.
Then this may appeal: https://www.gameservers.com/order/step2.php?game
$23.84 for a 16 man public server. $15.84 for a 16 man private server. They also do cheap "add-on" voice servers - $4 for 20 people. Apparently you also get a free website, but I haven't looked into it because it's not my problem. :p
FYI, I'm not recommending them as such, I've never used them; but the prices are cheap.
If you need cheaper than that then forget it.
Lol. That sounds good.
Thanks for info.
