I bought a new CoolViva Z1 passive cooler for my Radeon x1650xt. Installation went well, so i put the gpu back into the case, pushed the "on" button and nothing happened. Then i removed the card, the computer started normally (except for a long beep when it realised it has no gpu).
I thought that maybe it doesn't start if fan is not connected to the pc. So i connected the stock fan - still nothing.
I triple checked this and it's always the same. Is there a catch somewhere, or did i just screw my gpu up?
Maybe you crushed the gpu core. Make sure that everything looks fine physically.
if it was crushed, wouldn't the pc at least turn on and then complain? anyway, i'll go check again.
I don't think the P.C would confirm the problem it would just state if it's missing or not.
I didn't make it!
Maybe the GPU is bumping into a jumper or cable on the motherboard, such as the power switch cable?
Are you sure you also reconnected the additionnal power supply, if applicable ? (looks like some boards based on that chip have it while others don't :hmm: )
Well, i removed the heatsink and plugged the card in (and yes, i have connected the cables). Then, the ASUS' "AI Lifestyle" logo shows up like always. For a split second a message "loading LILO" (i have a dual boot system and LILO is a boot loader) shows up and then, blank and monitor goes to power saving mode. My guess is, that before loading LILO, a undamaged part of gpu is used.
Also, when i restart the pc manually by pushing the button, it keeps restarting over and over again, with 1 second pause between.
But, i think i have found the problem - there's a tiny dot on the gpu chip and it looks like a tiny piece of the gpu was chipped off. Looks like i wasn't careful enough :(
And no, the card doesn't bump into any cables and such.
Is there a way to test what's causing the problem?
Do you have access to another pc, perhaps a friends, that you could put the card into and try?
