I'll make this clear from the start,i am very much an ATI user and thought it would be an idea if people could help to do a comparison test with there experiances. As the "X" series cards are out now i would like to know how they compare to to older cards, for example is the X700 pro better or worse that the 9800pro,if worse give reasons and what card is it equivilant to?X300-???,and so on. Also mentioning if its AGP or PCI,now some people think that some of the cards are still better as AGP rather than getting PCI,which means new mobo and in some cases new ram aswell,so maybe its only worth getting PCI if its in the X800 range. If there is a thread like this, sorry(couldn't find one)is there's an ATi section and an INVIDIA section?if not maybe we could have one, rather than mixing them up?Not sure how many of you have 3DFX cards but maybe one of them too? Thanks for any input :D

This is a really good idea. It would help people just getting started to understand the ranges of graphics cards that are out there. Maybe once we have some hard data on this thread it could be stickeyed. Let me see what I can come up with.

AGP is better than PCI-Express. Except, supposedly, for long term support and upgradability. AGP cards are nearly as fast, and are moore reliable, and known technology. PCI-Express is still experimental.

The X800 series card is an AMAZING card, but the price difference vs AGP cards, and nVidia PCI-Express cards, is too big, to justify the cost, in my humble oppion.

I recommend waiting untill PCI-Express gets a "2.0" version, that is actually worth a new card.

Worse. The X700 is roughly equivalent to a 9600Pro. The X300 is closer to a 9200, AFAIK.

If you have an AGP system now, get an AGP card. If you're building a new system, go PCIe. Despite many people's beliefs to the contrary, PCIe is a "better" standard than AGP (which is itself based on the PCI standard). In terms of current-day performance however, PCIe offers nothing over AGP as yet.

I have a RX800XT Vivo platinum card, and it runs BEAUTIFULLY. it is the best card ive ever used. I wouldnt dream of going back to 9800 series, and definately not to Nvidia.

Check out http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/ ... According to that site the AGP cards get better FPS then the equals in PCI Express versions :) http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/half-life.html there you got some benchmark and you will clearly see that the AGP version give's better fps... If you search for Farcry you will see that the AGP card's still manage to beat the PCI Express in FPS performance!!

Maybe 3D1-graphiccards (SLI) will be the right way to go?? They got 2 graphiccores in one card... but they only got 6600 gt cores because it would be way to expensive otherwise!

"The X700 is roughly equivalent to a 9600Pro. The X300 is closer to a 9200, AFAIK"

So what your saying C38368,is that a 9600XT is better then?In the uk the X700 pro is about £130,9600XT about £100,9800 pro £140,so you may say why buy the X700 pro.

Thanx operative that will be good :D

blitZkRiEG thanx for your input but what i would like to see is just comparisons(between old and new performance wise)mainly for people buying there first card.As i would expect the X800Xt to be much better than the 9800 pro or XT,and so it should be for the price :D

Just a suggestion to any moderators out there, maybe a table could be compiled with any info, such as.....better to get 9600XT than X700 Pro or 9600 pro=X700 pro,and so on.If it is found to be the correct info.

I don't know for sure just which one the X700 most closely resembles, but I do know that it's in the same class as the 9600. I'd hit up Anandtech and see if they've got any comparisons if you want a more precise info.
