hello to all.

i'm in desperate need of getting a new graphics card. at the moment, i've got my mate's old radeon 9600se .it works fine, and plays BF2, but i want something with a bit more power, and have got the wish list down to two cards: PowerColor ATI Radeon X850 XT 256MB ~-or-~ Sapphire ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB.

what do you guys think of these cards and would it be worth looking into nVidia? i've got a maximum budget of £200, that's a sensible target for me to save up for (i'm doing my GCSEs at the moment, quite young lol!).

thanks

Cyprino

Get the X1800! Its pretty new and more advanced than any cards Nvidia have brought out. the X850 won't last you long. I have a X600Xt and am upgrading in the next month or so, and the X850 will not last more than a few months (a year tops) after that.

well if you can find a powercolor x1800, go with that. never, EVER buy sapphire. they use the cheapest heatsinks you can ever think up. sapphire cards are also well known for using very frail PCB's.

I've got the ASUS x850XT, runs BF2 pretty darn well with an Athlon 64 3500+. Not perfect, but much better than my old card and cpu :S. I'd say go for the x1800. Just wait till you save up the $$$ for it, it's worth the cash more than the x850XT is, and will last you longer.
