My friend is going to get a new GPU, and wants to know if it is worth the price difference from the 260 to the 280. Since the 280 has dropped recently due to the release of the 295, should he get a 280 or is the 260 a better choice?
The Radeon 4870 has a slight edge over the GTX 260 and is a bit cheaper, so unless he's averse to ATi products I'd say to go for that. That said the GTX 280 has dropped way down and (at least here) it's only about £40 more than the GTX 260 and is considerably more powerful...and £40 on top of £210 isn't really that much difference.
I'd say if he has nothing better to spend the money on then go for the GTX 280. If he does have something better to spend the money on then go for the 4870 rather than the GTX 260.

Better yet get 3 of them, and you'll have the unstoppable power of 3 gigabytes of video memory :).

computernerd;4777260Better yet get 3 of them, and you'll have the unstoppable power of 3 gigabytes of video memory :).
The question about that is are you ever going to consistently take advantage of those three GPUs?
(And is it worth the cost)
+1 to Stalker's suggestion, get a GTX285.
I'd also say yes to the 285. I've seen that thing get to 780MHz core on air.
Mm, Review i read from some OC benchmark had it no better then the 280 really, I think I saw it get 2FPS higher in one of the games lol. May have been early drivers though, I'd just get the 280 for the price
Get a Radeon 4870.
You can get 4870's for $200 now, you can't beat that much power for the price.
Yes you can... GTX295 Way better performance, and way better bang for buck. 4870 is bad, unless its the X2, which is still bad as no games are optimized for ATI cards lol, go nVidia's monopoly on everything!
