I'll let you wade through the links, but in a nutshell the 9800 GX2 is neck and neck with it on many titles and beats it in many cases fo much less $$$ and it's quieter. Nvidia's going to have a hard time explaining a rumored EOL on the 9800 GX2 if that rumor is true. GTX 280 reviews - Google Search We'll know more of course when actual retail versions, esp factory OC'd ones, are tested and the drivers mature. The price and noise levels aren't likely going to improve anytime soon though. As I expected I'm still anxious to see how the 4870 X2 will compare.

The GTX-280, unfortunatly, was designed for very high resolutions. 1920*1200, and 2560*1600 being the main candidates. At those resolutions it's about four times faster than the GX2. Anything lower, and sadly the GX2 seems to beat it. The good thing is though that the 280 can be overclocked further than the GX2, meaning it might very well fair better in the long run. It has to be taken into account though that the drivers for the 280 are beta, and pretty crap. The GX2 on the other hand has fully matured drivers. Also, the drivers that allow on-board PhysX calculations have yet to be released. This is where the 280 will shine, as it was designed for this express purpose. The GX2 was not. Basically, give it time, the 280 is, and will be, the better card.

Thats not good at all. Especially considering, according to most rumors, the 4870X2 is said to be a good bit faster than the GX2, and will come with a much cheaper price tag ($499).

If thats all the better it can do, the single Radeon 4870 should be pretty close as well, if its actually 25-30% faster than the 9800GTX as it's said to be, while costing only near half the price ($299).

The GTX-280, unfortunatly, was designed for very high resolutions. 1920*1200, and 2560*1600 being the main candidates.

Well, thats great but... Those resolutions are well beyond what most people game at.

I didn't read through all the links (just got home from work), but if the performance really is that bad on the GTX 280, this could end up being the Geforce FX all over again....

Its not that bad, its a SINGLE card, not an sli'd card. Your comparing a single GPU, to a GX2, sli'd cards. Considering its not sli'd, and is a single card, the fact it breaks even with it is impressive.

One thing I must bitch about though, is how much bull shit results Overclockers.com reviews are...an 8800GTS does not do a huge res, at medium settings at 41FPS, faster then a 9800GX2 or GTX 280

I wouldn't trust the reviews at all, the GTX 280 will smash any card in its way, besides, its not the 'uber' card...I wait for the NORMAL named 9900GT *Still Struggleing with the new names GTX 260 and the like*

No, it isn't. Not when it costs that much money. If were priced competitively while providing that level of performance then it would be impressive, but it isn't.

Its not even expensive though, well, for what it is, 600$ AUD I can get it for when its released, and thats retail cost...The 9800GX2 is 699, for a card that is a, A single card, and b, performs the same as a sli'd 8800GT(s), and its cheaper, then ofcourse im going to buy one

Here the 9800GX2 starts at around £330 and a 3870X2 can be had for £280. A GTX280 will set you back £460. You'll find that will be the case in most countries; if Australia is wierd and you can get it for less money then good for you, but for everyone else this card is expensive.
