my friend got his msn account hacked and some dumbass was then screwing with his contacts etc.. so i'm asking, is there any way to do it besides typing in thousands of passwords untill u get the right one, and if there is, how to prevent it? note that i'm not asking how to hack it, i'm asking how to prevent it..

There are dozens of supposed hacks for MSN messenger, and I don't believe in any of them. The best prevention is a decent password. Something that isn't easely guessed. Avoid using things like your last name, one of the names of your pet, your postal code or whatever. That's too easy to guess for people who know you, or even only know a little bit about you. Secondly, make sure there are no keyloggers on your computer. That's the best advise I can give.

Yeah the best format for a password is something that doesn't exactly relate to yorself, Birthday..etc. Having a mix of letters numbers and special characters in your password makes your password harder do break.

now i dont know if talking of hacking techniques on this forum is allowed but...first thing to find out is if anyone else besides you was using your computer.

it's not me who got hacked, it's my friend. and for sure, there was noone using his comp and typing shit around unless it was his parents or a 7 yr old brother (who doesnt even know what msn is). well i heard that there's this program which u can easily hack msn with. although i'm still not sure. but i guess it was his password cuz it really wasnt hard to guess.. and i dont think it's against the rules to talk about defending urself against hacks?

That would be a brute force then, SpaZy, and that's the only way you can try it. A strong password also prevents that. I've been toying with the idea to use an MD5 for my password, I'd like to see them crack that.

Quite. If you want to get some decent protection, use a set of random characters generated by a program for your password. Just make sure you write them down and keep them somewhere safe. Encrypted passwords are a bitch to remember.
