I seem to be plagued with faulty hard drives recently and today bought another day of misery thanks to Samsung Let me explain. Just after christmas I had a hard drive in my little home server go down which wasn't a major problem as I had space to move files off it and sent it back to shop. They sent me out a new one via free next day delivery and all was well. Skip forward 2 months and the new hard failed again So again I returned it and recieved a new one.Now again today the same bloody thing with the same hard drive. This hard drive to be precise. Newegg.com - SAMSUNG Spinpoint F1 HD753LJ 750GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive - Internal Hard Drives I purchased mine from e buyer in the UK but they have now discontinued this product (probably due to them being crap) Any way the issue is if I try to read a large file or write a large file then xp give a read / write failure message (no specifics) and then the drive seems to disapear from windows. I tested it on speedfan using there smart monitor and it reports that it's fitness is 3% The drive is not in my win 7 main comupter (had to save a load of files) and the samsung utilities to check the drive do not work in a 64 bit OS. I can just send this piece of crap back but I have 4 of these things (2 in my home server and 1 in my pc and 1 in my wifes) but does any one know of a good tool to check the HD with that will work in 64. I do not have a floppy installed
