ATI is releasing their HD4850 and HD4870 cards soon.

The release date on the HD4850 was moved suddenly earlier, so there is a trickle of reviews coming in now. All the reviews so far seem VERY impressive. What do you think, will AMD finally be able to claw back Nvidia's lead in the market?

The rate at which nVidia are going, with the whole "Lets release a new, worse performing card then the last", of course ATI..uhh, AMD *Still not used to that* will be able to claw their way back, but hopefully, the 280GT will show AMD who's bose, and put nVidia back on the board

I have seen a rumor the new HD4870 has GDDR5...

How much does GDDR3 and GDDR4 and GDDR5 matter? What is the difference?

If I'm not mistaken, the 280GTX has already been benchmarked. I'm fairly sure that the 4870X2 will pass it though.

its nice to see ATI being a justifiable competitor against nvidea once again since there recent lack of development since being bought out by AMD :)

The 4850's in Crossfire can already match the GTX 280 in a number of games. So i have to imagine the 4870X2 will be a good step above the 280. The single 4850 is just as fast (or faster) as the much more expensive 3870X2 at 1280x1024, and competes directly with the 9800GTX. Thats pretty damn impressive for a $200 card IMO.

All i can say is, its about time!

Eh, There was just as much Hype around the 3870 and 3870X2, yet they turned out to be an epic fail card, even for its price

@Food Yes I know the GTX 280 has been benched, but the GT 280 is *mean't* to out perform it, personally I doubt it, but we can only hope, and the fact nVidia are like "Wow, look at this card peeps, its worse then the one its replacing, and is more expensive! Buy it now!" then ofcourse ATI are going to get ahead with the new cards... They deserve to this time, ATI Havn't been stuck in the mud making bull shit cards out their ass, they put work into their new series to make it decent... nVidia got to cocky after flogging ATI with the 8 series, and now ATI are getting pay back

Someone here said he's read Nvidia botched the drivers on the GT200 series and a hotfix may correct the problem, though I've not seen a hint of any such thing via lots of Google searches. Originally we were hearing this 1 billion + transistor card was supposed to be about 3 times as fast as the 8800GTX. So far it's only proving to be twice as fast. The highlight of the summer will be GT200 series vs 4000 series benchies. In the fall it will be the Nehalem benchies.
