Well i have heard a lot of good about Sennheiser (spelling?) I plan on getting a pair of em soon, order em through work and I can save like 50 bucks :P. store cost + shipping! Avoid BOSE at all costs...they are NEVER worth what you pay for em...
I have these and they are just awesome.

thanks for the info... i have been looking around and found interesting things about surround sound and what not... just dont know what to buy dou :P
Sennheisers are what I use, the HD555 model. I also bought them for the exact same use. Since two thirds of the intended use (gaming and movies) involves ambient surround sound, I wanted cans that have a spatial quality. The HD555s being open backed are spatial and with the added wedge in the speaker baffle they send some of the sound waves behind your ear for great surround. They also have velour earpads and headband and are extremely comfiortable. It just so happens they rock for music too.
stereo or surround sound...? dont know which is better? any suggestions
Good stereo cans. "Surround" cans are... a joke.
I use Beyerdynamic DT770/Pros in this capacity. They're closed cans with insane bass response (if that's your thing) in their factory form, and they don't leak sound. Huge, massively comfy velour pads are a plus as well. Very good spatial imagining.

If you mean multichannel headphones with surround speakers in them vs stereo headphones, I agree with C, go with a good set of stereo ones. Multi speaker headphones try to mimick surround but they are actually worse at it than good stereo ones. They also give you lower quality drivers and most of them use a desktop multichannel amp you plug into which quite often have an annoying hum to them. Surround headphones are basically an experiment and return item just to satisfy your curiosity.
