Hello Internets. Newbie here :Party3:

I'm in college and recently my Gateway Notebook died on me (Crap computer!)

I'm not too computer savy so i thought id go here and ask. Anyway, i only have a small budget... from $500-$600 (or $700 possibly).

Any suggestions?

It's mainly for school, but i have a large library of HD movies and Music in my old Hardrive. Also, it would be nice if it has a decent/capable video/graphics card so i can do a little gaming on the side to keep me entertained and to cool off from all the studying.

Here's a couple i thought looked good: http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-Satell.../dp/B002P8M8HS http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220640 what u think?

Better responses.

Mika, out of the two that you linked there, the Asus is definitely the better choice. For starters, I would personally prefer it just because it's an Asus, and I've had questionable experience with Toshiba in the past. But that Asus laptop is more powerful, especially if you plan on gaming. I know for a fact that the Mobility Radeon HD 4570 that it has can play Modern Warfare 2 quite comfortably.

The only disadvantage of that Asus is that it uses an AMD processor (AMD isn't quite up to par with Intel in the mobile market), but I think it's a better laptop overall.

I happen to have the 15.6 inch version of the Asus. Way better than the HP/Compaq crap I've had. Probably the first noteook or PC that doesn't have completely worthless bloatware and less of it. Most of the utilities are Asus branded stuff.

Also, it has a two year warranty and the first year covers Accidental Damage (like spilling your drink on it and stuff).

(Sorry, can this be moved?)

Thanks for the reply guys :)

I was leaning on Toshiba simply because it has a 500GB hardrive and they say it has a better processor? But i've been hearing that Asus is better overall (from friends) like you guys say. If Asus lasts for more than 3-4 years, thats a great buy from me :) and the accidental warranty is a plus.

Right now, i think Asus is what i'm going to buy.

Any other worth considering?

Toshiba was actually rated #1 for laptop quality, while asus was #2 so you cant go wrong with either of them.

320GB should be plenty of hard drive space either way, but if you really need more, you can easily replace the existing hard drive with a 500GB model.

As for that HP, it's a decent price, but integrated graphics = no gaming at all. My recommendation still goes to the Asus.
