Because my warranty has been botched basicaly, im forced to buy a new video card. I have a budget which is the prob, of $250 Australian Dollars.:( This is because my old video card was a 128mb Radeon 9800pro and my supplier said that the company said they would get me one for $250 as replacement. However my friend has a wholesale thing going on, and he says he can get me anything really cheap and wont increase the price to make a profit off me like normal stores would... which is nice :nodding: So through him I was looking at what was available through powercolor cards and I fancy a 256mb Radeon X700 for $209. I was just wondering in comparison how does the 256mb Radeon X700 fair with the 128mb Radeon 9800pro. It would appear this card is DDR2 and not DDR3(the X700 I mean) but I am unsure about the Radeon 9800pro, which I brought 2 years ago, what would it be and does it really matter? Thanks for your help, whoever decides to respond! :D I appreciate it!

first off, we all know im a ATI guy, but the 6600 gt did beat the x700 in all test. the 9800 pro did not have GDDR3, nor does its clock or pixels even compare to the x700. you can find a x800 for really cheap. some links below: gigabyte x800 for 189 bucks, screw that x700. (oops, its PCI-E, look for AGP) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814125171 refurbished x800 PRO 200 bucks http://www.chiefvalue.com/app/productdetails.asp?submit=&item=14-102-363R&ATT=Video%20Cards&CMP=OTC-pr1c3watch 6800 gt for 200 bucks, 128 meg ram GDDR3 350 megahertz core 16 pipes http://www.chiefvalue.com/app/productdetails.asp?submit=&item=14-121-177R&ATT=Video%20Cards&CMP=OTC-pr1c3watch ATI x800 XL 230 bucks http://www.allstarshop.com/shop/simprod.asp?pid=11116&ad=pwatch any one of these would be good. i HIGHLY recomend NOT getting the x700, or 6600's

Okey excluding that last post, which makes me think wtf?! If I was forced to choose though between those two cards what would you say is best? X700 or 9800PRO? Thats the question, truth is there is no way I could convince parents to spend more then $250 AUD on a vid card for me. EDIT: HAHAHA the cheeky bugger deleted the post! :uhm:

How cheaply can he get you an X800 or 6800gt for? A clanmate of mine could get me a 9800pro for $190 at the start of feb this year, I'd expect you're mate could do about $240-270 for a newer card about now. If he really tried. Retail prices really are a LOT higher than cost/wholesale. I think some as much as 50% extra.
