Yes, I'm after a spot of help. I want to format my computer because theres an intelorable amount of crap on it.

What should I do before the formatting? (like, what stuff should I have with me before I proceed)

How exactly do I do it?

If I'm missing a driver or something, how down the shitter could it all go?

Thanks in advance. nice2.gif

If you're using a SATA hard drive you'll probably need the driver for your SATA controller on a floppy disk. Should have come with your mobo, if not check the manufacturer's website. You may not need it, and if it turns out that you do then you'll know before you even make any changes to your PC.

Other than that, all the drivers you need should be available on the internet. So, having said that, make sure you have the driver(s) for whatever connects you to the internet (network card, wireless network card, modem etc etc).

Best advice right there. Get a program called Everest Home at majorgeeks.com and use it to get the proper drivers you will need especially seeing as most people loose their mobo disks.

Back up the files that you can't replace (word documents, photographs, saved game files from video games installed on your computer), and burn them onto a CD, or put them onto an external hard drive.

And, if the CD that you're reformating from dosen't have XP service pack 2, make sure that you have the SP2 install somewhere handy.
